Description

These Soft and Chewy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies are a nostalgic treat made with old-fashioned oats, plump raisins, and warm cinnamon spice. With their hearty texture and chewy centers, they’re easy to make, stay fresh for days, and are the perfect homemade cookie for snacking, gifting, or enjoying with a cup of tea.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, cream butter with brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.

  6. Fold in oats and raisins by hand until evenly distributed.

  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them a couple of inches apart.

  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and centers are soft.

  9. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For added crunch, mix in chopped walnuts or pecans.
  • Swap raisins with dried cranberries or chocolate chips for a twist.
  • Chill the dough for 30 minutes if you want thicker cookies.
  • To keep cookies soft longer, store with a slice of bread in the container.
  • Soak raisins in warm water for 10 minutes before using to make them plumper.
