Description

Savory Onion Beef Fried Rice is a quick, one-pan meal that combines tender slices of beef, sweet caramelized onions, and fluffy rice in a rich, savory sauce. This better-than-takeout dish is perfect for busy weeknights and an ideal way to use up leftover rice. Bursting with flavor and ready in 20 minutes, it’s your new go-to comfort meal.

Ingredients

  • Cooked rice (preferably day-old)
  • Thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak)
  • Yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • Garlic, minced
  • Soy sauce
  • Sesame oil
  • Vegetable oil
  • Black pepper
  • Optional: green onions, egg, chili flakes, diced carrots, or peas

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

  2. Sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized, about 5–7 minutes.

  3. Add minced garlic and beef; cook until the beef is browned and cooked through.

  4. Push beef and onions to one side of the pan. Add a bit more oil and the rice.

  5. Stir-fry the rice to separate grains and heat it through, about 2–3 minutes.

  6. Drizzle in soy sauce and sesame oil. Mix everything together until evenly coated.

  7. Season with black pepper and garnish with green onions or chili flakes if desired.

Notes

  • Use day-old jasmine or long grain rice for the best texture.
  • Scramble an egg into the pan before adding rice for added richness.
  • Add vegetables like carrots, peas, or shredded cabbage for a boost.
  • Swap beef for chicken or tofu for a different protein option.
  • A splash of oyster sauce or hoisin deepens flavor.
