Description

Old School Pizza Burgers are a nostalgic combination of juicy ground beef, tangy pizza sauce, melty cheese, and crispy buns—baked to perfection for a retro comfort food classic that’s easy, satisfying, and full of flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup pizza sauce or marinara
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
  • Pepperoni slices (optional)
  • 6 hamburger buns or sandwich rolls
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for toasting buns)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef with diced onion until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add minced garlic, pizza sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened slightly.
  4. Arrange bottom halves of buns on the baking sheet. Spoon meat mixture onto each one.
  5. Top with shredded cheese and pepperoni slices if using.
  6. Place top bun halves on the baking sheet, cut side up. Optionally brush with butter.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until cheese is melted and tops are toasted.
  8. Assemble the burgers, sprinkle with Parmesan if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Swap beef for Italian sausage or a vegetarian alternative.
  • Add mushrooms, peppers, or olives for extra flavor.
  • Brush buns with garlic butter for added richness.
  • Use provolone, cheddar, or Italian cheese blends as alternatives.
  • Prepare meat mixture in advance for quicker assembly.
