Mozzarella Stuffed Soft Pretzels are chewy, golden-brown pretzels filled with gooey melted cheese. These homemade delights are perfect for snacking, parties, or game day treats with their crisp exterior and soft, cheesy interior.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 8 sticks low-moisture mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup baking soda (for boiling)
- 6 cups water (for boiling)
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
- Coarse salt (for topping)
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll each into a rope, flatten slightly, add mozzarella stick, and seal dough around it.
- Shape each into a pretzel or log.
- Boil each pretzel in baking soda water for 20–30 seconds. Transfer to baking sheet.
- Brush with egg wash (optional), sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving to allow cheese to set.
Notes
- Use low-moisture mozzarella to prevent excess moisture and leaking.
- Seal dough tightly to keep cheese inside while baking.
- For added flavor, brush with garlic butter after baking.
