Description

Mozzarella Stuffed Soft Pretzels are chewy, golden-brown pretzels filled with gooey melted cheese. These homemade delights are perfect for snacking, parties, or game day treats with their crisp exterior and soft, cheesy interior.


Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 8 sticks low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup baking soda (for boiling)
  • 6 cups water (for boiling)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
  • Coarse salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise 1 hour until doubled.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Divide dough into 8 pieces. Roll each into a rope, flatten slightly, add mozzarella stick, and seal dough around it.
  5. Shape each into a pretzel or log.
  6. Boil each pretzel in baking soda water for 20–30 seconds. Transfer to baking sheet.
  7. Brush with egg wash (optional), sprinkle with coarse salt, and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly before serving to allow cheese to set.

Notes

  • Use low-moisture mozzarella to prevent excess moisture and leaking.
  • Seal dough tightly to keep cheese inside while baking.
  • For added flavor, brush with garlic butter after baking.
