Description

Ground Beef Stroganoff and Rice is a quick and creamy comfort food classic featuring savory ground beef, mushrooms, and a rich sour cream sauce served over fluffy white rice. Perfect for busy weeknights, this hearty, family-friendly meal comes together in under 30 minutes using pantry staples.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (white button or cremini)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (optional, for sautéing)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up into crumbles. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Add chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until onions are soft and fragrant.
  • Stir in sliced mushrooms and cook until tender and moisture has evaporated.
  • Sprinkle flour over the mixture, stir to coat evenly.
  • Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring to form a smooth sauce.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in sour cream until fully combined and creamy.
  • Serve hot over a bed of cooked white rice.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Add peas or spinach for extra veggies.
  • Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter version.
  • For more creaminess, stir in a splash of heavy cream.
  • Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of broth or water.
