Description

This French Onion Butter Rice is a cozy, flavorful side dish made with buttery rice, beef broth, and French onion soup—baked to golden perfection and guaranteed to become a go-to comfort food favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain white rice, uncooked
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup (or homemade)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, sliced or cubed
  • Optional add-ins:
  • ½ cup sliced mushrooms
  • 12 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup shredded cheese (Swiss, Gruyère, or mozzarella)
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.

  2. Pour uncooked rice evenly into the dish.

  3. Add French onion soup and beef broth, stirring gently to combine.

  4. Dot the top with butter slices.

  5. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

  6. Uncover and continue baking for 25–30 more minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.

  7. Fluff with a fork and garnish with parsley or cheese, if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a meatless version, use vegetarian French onion soup and veggie broth.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or garlic for more depth.
  • Stir in cheese during the last 5 minutes of baking for a creamy finish.
  • Want extra umami? Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce.
