Description
These Easy Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers are hearty, handheld meat-and-cabbage sandwiches baked in golden bread—a Midwestern comfort food classic that’s perfect for family dinners, meal prep, or freezer-friendly lunches.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 cups green cabbage, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce or mustard (optional)
- Bread dough (homemade, store-bought, or 8 frozen rolls, thawed)
- 1–2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
-
Add chopped onion, garlic, and cabbage. Cook until the cabbage is tender and mixture is well combined. Season with salt, pepper, and optional Worcestershire sauce or mustard.
-
Let the filling cool slightly. Meanwhile, roll dough into 5-inch circles.
-
Spoon filling into the center of each circle. Fold the dough over and pinch edges to seal.
-
Place seam-side down on prepared baking sheet. Brush tops with olive oil or melted butter.
-
Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Add shredded cheese to the filling for extra richness.
- Use ground turkey, chicken, or plant-based meat for variations.
- Whole wheat dough adds fiber and flavor.
- Add sauerkraut or spicy mustard for a tangy kick.
- Seal edges tightly to avoid leaks and bake seam-side down for best results.
