Cheese Bread is a quick and savory loaf filled with melted cheese and optional herbs, perfect as a side for soups, a base for sandwiches, or a warm snack on its own.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder or Italian seasoning (optional)
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese blend)
- 2 tbsp chopped chives or parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a standard loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and seasoning if using.
- In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and melted butter until smooth.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
- Fold in shredded cheese and herbs, if using.
- Pour batter into prepared pan, smooth the top, and sprinkle with extra cheese.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool or serve warm.
Notes
- Add bacon, jalapeños, or other mix-ins for variation.
- Use different cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or parmesan for flavor variety.
- Make muffins instead by baking in a muffin tin for 15–18 minutes at 350°F.
- Use self-rising flour and omit baking powder and salt if preferred.
- Wrap tightly and freeze for longer storage.
