Description

Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy, savory spin on the classic sandwich, featuring ground chicken, peppers, and Cajun seasoning in a zesty sauce served on toasted buns for a bold, easy meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 toasted hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: hot sauce, sliced green onions, shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté diced onion and bell pepper until soft, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add ground chicken and cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Stir in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly and flavors combine.
  6. Toast the buns and spoon the chicken mixture onto each one.
  7. Serve hot with optional toppings like hot sauce, green onions, or shredded cheese.

Notes

  • Add corn or black beans for more texture and bulk.
  • Stir in cream cheese or shredded cheese for a creamier filling.
  • Substitute ground turkey or rotisserie chicken if desired.
  • Freeze filling in a container for up to 2 months; thaw and reheat before serving.
  • Adjust heat with extra hot sauce or spicier Cajun seasoning.
